Once you arrive in Catania, you also have the chance to plan excursions to Mount Etna, the largest and most active volcano in Europe.

By ferry, you have a variety of options to get to Sicily from Malta.
You could opt for the Malta – Palermo route — the longer one — or Malta – Catania, or Malta – Pozzallo.
The Malta – Catania ride (fares starting from 80 euro) will take you 3 and 1/2 hours, so it appears to be not suitable for a day trip.
Malta – Pozzallo (fares starting from 60 euro) will take you 1 and 1/2 hours.
You can see details of the ferry services between Malta and Sicily on the websites of the ferry companies.

Sometimes, some ferry companies also offer Malta-Sicily day trip packages (virtuferries.com is the finest example). That appears be the best option for a day trip. For as low as around 100 euro you can buy one of these packages.

A Malta – Sicily day trip package could include, for example: the trip between Malta and Pozzallo (Sicily), the transfer to Mount Etna and the climb to the crater of the volcano, the visit to the baroque town of Modica and few stops in villages located along the trail for sampling and buying local delicacies. This area of Sicily gained a reputation for producing excellent wines, high quality cheese, almond sweets and honey.
Also you’ll enjoy fantastic landscapes, with the lower slopes of the volcano adorned with groves of oranges, lemons and other gorgeous Mediterranean flora.

At the end of the day, you’ll get a stunning day trip offered at an affordable price allowing you to save time and money. A day trip package definitely seems to be the best option to choose when it comes to planning day trips from Malta to Sicily.
