The hill town of Perugia, in Umbria (region including well-known medieval hill town such as Assisi, Orvieto, Gubbio, Spoleto), is the one of favorite destination for ‘romance’ day trips from Rome or Florence.
Why does Perugia provide inspiration for ‘romance trips’? Perugia is home town of the famed “romance chocolate” Bacio Perugina, a bitter-sweet chocolate and hazelnut blend (”bacio” means “kiss” in Italian, the plural “baci”=”kisses”).
Each of Baci comes wrapped in a poetic love note in four languages describing the course of love—a true gesture of romance. (Listen an example by visting this

This week, Perugia celebrates also its Baci, with Eurochocolate, major chocolate week-long festival (from October 13 through 21). That means a week of exhibits, tastings and chocolate-themed attractions.
