»» Italian American Festivals Featuring Tenor Aaron Caruso

Continuing his tours in an effort to reach the Italian American community in the States and to reach out to the young Italian Americans, the young, dynamic Italian American Tenor, Aaron Caruso, will be appearing in two festivals honoring Our Lady of Mt. Carmel and in the largest Italian American Festival in the United States.

The three dates in July for the Caruso’s tour are the following.
He will be the featured attraction at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Feast, in Kenosha, WI on July 14th, 2007, and at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Brooklyn, NY on July 16th.
He will also be appearing on the Main stage at the Italian Festival in Milwaukee, WI from July 19th through the 22nd.

»» Umbria: Medieval Setting for High End Jazz and Theatre

In July, Umbria offers a couple of more attractions for its visitors, especially for those who love music and theatre.
A couple of internationally renowned music and theatre festivals held in two of the major historic cities of the region, Spoleto and Perugia.

Perugia (Umbria)

From June 29 through July 15, Spoleto hosts its “Festival of Two Worlds” — aka “Spoleto Festival“, an event which brings together international stars of theatre, opera, dance, visual arts, and cinema. See programme and details.
Did you know Spoleto Festival also has a twin festival taking place in the U.S.? It’s Spoleto Festival USA.

Perugia in July hosts Umbria Jazz. The 2007 edition of this event, which is one of the major international jazz festivals in Europe, will be held from July 6 until 15. See programme and details.

»» Celebrating San Daniele Ham

When it comes to prosciutto — Italian ham, the San Daniele’s occupies the center of the stage.

Every year the town of San Daniele, located just north of Udine in the Friuli region, dedicates a four-day festival to its ‘prosciutto’.

For the occasion, the Consorzio del Prosciuttodi San Daniele organizes, free of charge, guided ham tasting, visits to ham factories (’prosciuttifici’), and cooking lessons. It’s a chance to discover the secrets of one of the most typical Italian delicacies.

»» Learning Italian Language and Culture in Salt Lake City, UT

The Italian Center of the West of Salt Lake City, UT, offers those who like to learn Italian, two different classes running from June 12 through August.

Homewood Suites Hotel - SLC

The class for beginners will cover basic conversation skills useful for travel to Italy as well as practicing present and future tense verbs. Students will also learn about the people and culture of Italy.
Dr. Giovanni Maschero, Vice Consul of Italy, who teaches Italian at the University and is a native Italian, will lead the class.

The intermediate class will build on the skills learned from the beginners class, practice conversation, and will include topics on Italian culture. Gretchen Mathis, who has a certificate in Italian from the Università per Stranieri, Siena, Italy and degrees from US universities in communication, journalism, international relations and economics, will lead the class.

Classes will be held at the Homewood Suites Hotel, 423 West 300 South, SLC 84101.
