»» A Project Gathering Immigration Experiences of Italians on the West Coast

Italian Center of the West of Salt Lake City, in the effort to document the Italian-American story in Utah is looking for Italian discendents willing to tell their family as well as their immigration experiences.

Italians in the Gold Rush and Beyond“, that is the name of the project, is based on the history of Italians on the West Coast from the beginning of the Gold Rush Era (1848) up to the present.

The project intends to recover this important historical heritage and to document it via an on-line database.
The photos documenting the Italian-American story in Utah will be dispalyed at the Italian Cultural Street Fair held in August in Salt Lake City. Click here for more info

»» Weekly Events Roundup: Mediterranean Diet Festival in Southern Italy

There is no question that Dieta Mediterranea is one of the icons of Italian lifestyle.
Mediterranean diet is more than just a diet; it is a lifestyle.

Dieta Mediterranea is identified with a diet rich in vegetables, fruit, legumes, grains, olive oil, and red wine, and low in animal protein, saturated fat, and refined sugars.

Cilento coast-Campania

Pioppi, Italian sea locality located in the Cilento coast - south of Amalfi coast, will host a festival dedicated to Dieta Mediteranea, from June 21 until 25.

In Pioppi was used to spend long stays, Ancel Keys, American nutritionist, who first in the early 1950s, compared the diets of Mediterranean countries and their incidence of heart disease. There is also a museum dedicated to the Dieta Mediterranea in Pioppi.
Tastings of olive oil and wine and cooking classes on the ancient Mediterranean cuisine, are among the events scheduled for the festival.

- Italian wine sampling in Tampa, FLA
A wine tasting featuring Tuscan wines, will be held on Friday June 23, in Tampa, Florida.
“Mama Mia Italian Wine & Food”, is a Italian wine sampling taking place at the Charlie’s Wine Bar of Tampa, featuring Chianti Classico and Super Tuscan wines.

»» Seminar on Italian Culture in Easton, PA

The Easton Area Public Library will host a seminar having as subject the Italian-American culture, on Tuesday June 20, at noon.

Author Dominic J. Pulera, who will publish his book “Green, White, and Red: Italian Americans, the American Dream, and the Italian Diaspora” in 2007, will trace the progress of Italian-Americans in the presentation.
It will be followd by audience participation.

»» Weekly Festivals Roundup: Festa Pasta Vino in Chicago

A festival in USA first: the 16th annual festival Festa Pasta Vino, from 16 until 18 in Chicago (Oakley just south of Cermak).

It is a food and wine festival, featuring the best Italian food, wine and entertainment from Chicago.
The festival, sponsored by Sorrento Cheese and Onesti Entertainment, was formerly known as the Heart of Italy Food & Wine Festival.
There will be also a replica of Rome’s Trevi Fountaina, a puppet show, and a cannoli-eating contest.

- Vespa Lovers gathering in Turin
In Turin, Italy, this week-end will be held a Vespa enthusiasts gathering. More than 3,000 Vespa lovers coming from over 20 countries in Turin to celebrate the 60th birthday of the most popular scooter in Italy and in the world.
