Friuli-Venezia Giulia is composed in two parts: Friuli, including the provinces of Udine, Pordenone and part of the province of Gorizia, and Venezia Giulia, including the territories of Trieste and Gorizia.
The region offers a diversity of landscapes: from the sea to the mountains the distances do not exceed a hundred kilometres.
Diversity also in climate, that varies considerably from one area to another: from a humid, temperate climate to the special climate of Carso plateau where masses of cold air coming from the east bring well-known winds, the Bora, with gusts that sometimes exceed 150 km/h.

Cities

Trieste- The city, main center of the region, is a cross-roads of people and cultures from Italy and the Balkans, central Europe and Mediterranean areas.
Among the major sights Trieste offers: Piazza Libertà with its beautiful neoclassical palaces, Palazzo Comunale, Palazzo della Prefettura , Palazzo del Lloyd; the castles: Castello di San Giusto and Castello di Miramare; the churches of San Giusto -- the Cathedral, San Nicolò, and San Spiridione.

-Udine- Major sights: the castle Castello di Udine housing Art Gallery, Museo del Risorgimento, Armeria and Civici Musei; the 16th Torre dell orologio; the Fountain erected in 1542.

-Gorizia- Major sights: the castle Castello di Gorizia (11th century), symbol of the city, which stores a great collection of Renaissance, Baroque and eighteenth-century furniture, paintings and sculptures; the Cathedral -- Duomo, which dates back to 1296.

Natural sights

Sea: Grado and Aquileia, Lignano Sabbiadoro, and the Triestine coastline.
Mountain: Alps chain (Tarvisiano, the Carnia, Piancavallo).
